Flynn Mehlhopt

Flynn Mehlhopt is a director of Quelight, which he co-founded, and of Larky Pictures, which he runs with Vicki Matranga. He has been filming live performance since January 2021, first in Wellington, then Auckland, and now London. It started with Whakaaro Whānau, a Wellington film collective he co-founded to uplift the independent working artists of New Zealand. In one month at NZ Fringe 2021 the collective recorded more than 20 shows, and it went on to film for Kia Mau Festival, Pūtahi Festival and Circa Theatre. In Auckland he set up Fort Creatives, directing and producing livestreams, operating cameras and drones for sports streams, and working as creative producer and live director on a Guinness World Records attempt for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. He moved to London in 2023. His West End credits include Head of Video on Starlight Express and Focus Puller on The Picture of Dorian Gray. At Quelight he leads the technical side and the platform itself, and at the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe the company filmed 16 productions across 19 recording sessions at 8 venues.
