    Flynn on why Quelight films independent theatre, from lockdown in 2020 to small venues today, and a New Zealand culture of sharing.

    I started filming theatre in 2020, when the work had nowhere to go. Rooms were shut, runs were cancelled, and shows that had taken years to make were seen by almost no one. Recording them was a way of saying this happened, and it mattered. I saw this problem first hand in a few ways. My drama school featured many international students whose family now couldn't come and see the work they had worked to put up.
