    About This Show

Acclaimed Kiwi theatre company's international premiere of this powerful, original folk musical shedding new light on untouched aspects of one of mythology’s greatest figures: his struggle with his darker self, his fraught relationship with Hera, Queen of the Gods. Four characters explore a timeless question. Who are we when no one is watching: hero, man, beast or god? Greek folklore blended with 1940s Hollywood aesthetic through a highly innovative live-looping musical landscape where one musician creates the sound of a full band. Cast album featuring ten original songs on all main streaming platforms.

"I am a massive fan of The Baden Party (Macbeth is easily one of the best things I’ve ever seen at the Fringe) and I was so impressed with Heracles. So very different but incredibly moving and engrossing. If you think you know all about Heracles, think again! I was blown away by their acting and musicianship and the atmosphere created in that small space was just magical. Highly recommended. (easily)"

"The Barden Party sure know how to captivate an audience, and this international debut of part one of Heracles is a testament to how hard this company works. The music is INCREDIBLE and I wanted more of it, but seeing Ollie Howlett create essentially an entire orchestra on his own is impressive. The vocal talent from all the cast is strong, and beautifully weaves in with the orchestration. The story telling is strong through the dialogue, movement and songs. Laura Irish as Hera is captivating, she commands the space effortlessly. Caleb James as Heracles brings that raw grit and playfulness. Isabella Aarons as Megara brought out a gentle and soft quality. Ivie Anderson as Maia was so playful and grounded in her movements. Definitely don’t miss out on this show that is destined for a west end run one day!"

"This is a top fringe show. Phenomenal performances, beautiful staging, and a story that I never wanted to end. Above all, I loved watching the music be made live on stage. This is what made the experience unique for me, and I hope that is an element that stays as this piece continues to develop. Huge shoutout to Laura Irish, who co-wrote, directed, and starred in this piece, and this is not even her only fringe show!!"
